Gearbox identification
Confirm the vehicle and transmission code where available. Review previous oil changes, current symptoms and the applicable maintenance information.
Maintain your transmission with an automatic gearbox oil and filter service at SG-Tronic Motorsport. Our Stourbridge workshop serves Birmingham and the West Midlands, with vehicle-specific service enquiries welcomed from across the UK.

Automatic transmission fluid works within the gearbox’s hydraulic, lubrication and cooling systems. Its specification matters: torque-converter automatics, wet-clutch DSG or DCT gearboxes and CVTs do not all use the same oil or service method.
We identify the transmission before quoting. The proposed job can include the specified oil, a serviceable filter or a combined pan-and-filter assembly, seals and required fixings. Fluid level is set using the gearbox manufacturer’s procedure, including temperature requirements where applicable.
Send the registration, mileage and service history. Enquiries for BMW/ZF automatics, Mercedes-Benz transmissions and wet-clutch Volkswagen Group DSG units are checked against the exact gearbox; availability and scope are confirmed individually.

A clear quotation identifies the transmission, fluid and parts. The agreed procedure follows the requirements of the particular gearbox.
Confirm the vehicle and transmission code where available. Review previous oil changes, current symptoms and the applicable maintenance information.
Select oil with the specified approval for the gearbox. Fluid quantity and the drain-and-refill procedure are confirmed for the agreed service.
Replace the serviceable filter or integrated filter pan where specified. The design determines which seals, plugs and fixings are included.
Set the oil level using the relevant temperature and filling procedure. Check the serviced area for leaks and review operation as appropriate.
Slipping, loss of drive, severe shift faults, burnt oil or contamination may need diagnosis before a service. An oil and filter change is maintenance; it cannot be promised to repair worn clutches, internal damage or electronic faults.
An automatic gearbox oil change needs the fluid and parts specified for the exact transmission. The examples below help describe common enquiries; they are not a promise that every unit is supported. Send the registration, gearbox details and service history for confirmation.
For a BMW ZF gearbox service enquiry, the transmission variant determines the oil and filter arrangement. Depending on the unit, a separate filter or a combined pan-and-filter assembly may be required. Identification matters more than assuming every six-speed or eight-speed automatic needs an identical kit, fluid or filling procedure.
Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and Škoda wet-clutch DSG enquiries are checked against the gearbox code. DQ250 and DQ500 are examples of different applications, rather than interchangeable service instructions. Filter arrangement, oil specification and scope need confirmation; a DSG oil change should not be assumed to cover every dual-clutch unit in the same way.
Mercedes transmission servicing also depends on the installed unit. Share the registration and any gearbox identification or service invoice, rather than booking solely by the model badge. The quote can then identify the applicable fluid, service parts and agreed work, with availability confirmed before the appointment is arranged.
CVT, dual-clutch and conventional torque-converter gearboxes can require different lubricants and service parts. Send the exact vehicle details to check whether the transmission is supported. A generic automatic transmission fluid or a procedure used on another car is not a substitute for identifying the correct application and service information.

Use the maintenance schedule and service history to plan the job. Tell us about symptoms before booking an oil change.
The transmission is due under its specified schedule, or its last oil and filter service cannot be confirmed.
You want the gearbox identified and its servicing requirements checked after purchasing a car.
An oil leak, warning or change in operation should be assessed so maintenance and repair needs are distinguished.
Describe the driving conditions and towing history when enquiring, so the service guidance for your particular gearbox can be reviewed.
A gearbox oil change price needs to describe the transmission, fluid, filter or pan and the agreed procedure. When comparing automatic transmission service costs in the UK, check whether each quote covers the same work and whether a fault requires assessment before maintenance.
The correct fluid approval and the quantity required by the agreed procedure affect the service scope. The quotation should identify the transmission application rather than offer one universal oil for every automatic. A supply-only fluid price and a completed workshop service are different things when you compare the overall job.
Some applications have a separate serviceable filter, while others use an integrated filter pan. The design determines which seals, plugs and fixings belong in the job. Ask what is being replaced and compare the same parts scope, especially if one quotation lists an oil change and another lists a pan-and-filter service.
A complete service needs the appropriate access and the specified filling and level procedure. Time and requirements differ between transmissions. The agreed quotation should describe what the workshop is doing, rather than compare only the litres of oil used. Relevant completion checks are considered as part of the vehicle-specific scope.
An oil leak, warning, slipping or loss of drive can change the appropriate starting point. Tell us about the symptoms before comparing routine service prices. Diagnostic work, an associated repair or controller programming is assessed separately where needed, so an oil-and-filter quote is not mistaken for a promise to resolve every transmission fault.
Registration, mileage, gearbox details and previous service records help establish the specification.
We confirm compatibility, the proposed oil, filter or pan and the required procedure.
Book the vehicle into the Stourbridge workshop after scope, parts and availability are agreed.
The level, serviced components and agreed operational checks are reviewed before handover.
Send the registration, current mileage and any record of the previous gearbox oil service. If a report or invoice gives the transmission code, fluid specification or fitted filter pan, include it. This helps distinguish what has already been done from assumptions based on the vehicle’s age or gearbox badge.
Describe changes in shifting, leaks, warning messages or unusual operation, including whether the symptoms are present when cold, warm or under particular driving conditions. Previous repairs, software work and towing use are also useful context. An oil service can then be considered against the actual maintenance history and any separate diagnostic requirement.
For Birmingham, Harborne, Edgbaston and wider UK customers, the vehicle attends our Stourbridge workshop. Confirm the supported transmission, parts, quotation and appointment before travelling. Mechanical fluid servicing is separate from the website’s postal gearbox-controller programming enquiries.
Gearbox oil and filter service cost varies with transmission type, fluid specification, filter or pan design and access. Send the registration, mileage and gearbox code if known. Include any shift symptoms or warning messages so diagnostic work can be considered before maintenance is booked.

View serviceCheck the vehicle and transmission manufacturer’s guidance for the exact gearbox, with driving conditions taken into account. Service intervals vary; there is no single mileage suitable for every automatic transmission.
Where it is serviceable and part of the specified maintenance procedure, the quote includes it. Some gearboxes use a separate filter and others combine the filter with the pan. The exact design is checked before parts are ordered.
Supported wet-clutch DSG and DCT units can be assessed for the correct oil and filter procedure. Send the registration or gearbox code to confirm support. A dry-clutch unit should not be assumed to need the same service.
That cannot be guaranteed. These symptoms can have mechanical, hydraulic or electronic causes. We recommend assessment before the service where a warning, loss of drive, slipping or significant shift fault is present.
A flush is not assumed to be appropriate for every transmission. The quoted procedure is selected for the gearbox and its condition, following relevant service guidance. Ask for the scope before booking.
Yes, after the gearbox and service scope have been confirmed. The vehicle needs to attend our Stourbridge workshop. UK-wide enquiries are welcome; this mechanical oil and filter service is a workshop appointment.
The quotation depends on the identified transmission, specified fluid, filter or integrated pan and the agreed work. Send the registration, mileage and service history, with any symptoms explained. Compare quotes covering the same parts and procedure. A headline gearbox oil change price is not enough to establish the cost of every automatic transmission service.
No. The gearbox has its own lubricant requirements, which can vary between automatic, dual-clutch and CVT designs. An engine oil and filter change does not replace the transmission service. Ask which fluid specification applies to the exact gearbox rather than choosing a product solely because it is described as oil for an automatic.
Send the registration and VIN if available, together with any gearbox code or previous invoice. The application is checked before parts and fluid are selected. An eight-speed description alone does not confirm the exact ZF variant or filter-pan arrangement. Availability and the proposed service scope are confirmed individually before booking.
No universal interval or oil procedure should be assumed. The exact unit and the relevant vehicle or transmission guidance need to be checked. Tell us the registration, mileage and previous oil-service details. Wet-clutch and dry-clutch designs should not be treated as one interchangeable maintenance job just because the gearbox has a similar name.
It is not automatically included. Controller programming, replacement coding or an adaptation procedure is considered where the vehicle, findings and agreed job require it. Explain any previous controller work or warning before booking. The quotation should distinguish routine fluid maintenance from a separate electronics or diagnostic service.
Keep the invoice and the service date and mileage, together with the fluid and parts listed for the agreed work. If a filter pan or associated seals were replaced, retain that detail as well. It gives a future service enquiry a more useful starting point than an undocumented claim that the gearbox oil was changed.
We will review the details, discuss the service scope and confirm the quotation and workshop availability.
